Abstract

Leonardo aveva evidente interesse al tema della "Leda col cigno"; esistono studi preparatori per un dipinto della Leda oggi "perduto", e copie contemporanee. Tuttavia, antiche fonti documentarie non fanno menzione dell'opera. Solo nel 1584 venne ascritto a Leonardo, in base ad un'errata attribuzione, un dipinto della Leda. Testimoni oculari ed inventari della collezione reale francese sono contraddittori, e non se ne può trarre conferma della presenza del dipinto di Leonardo a Fontainebleau, dove si presumeva fosse stato visto nel 1625. Differenze nelle copie attestano che, verosimilmente, solo gli studi ed un cartone — che è documentato — sono esistiti. Essi costituirono, a quanto pare, la fonte per altri artisti, ispirati da ciò che Leonardo ha ideato ma non ha mai compiuto.

Journal Information

The journal was founded in 1908 by the "Friends of the Kunsthistorisches Institut" as a multilingual academic forum for the institute's collaborators as well as art historians in general. Its annual publication began with volume XV in 1971, when the "Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz" itself became the journal's editor. At present the Mitteilungen appears once a year. Each volume consists of three issues, which publish the results of current research conducted by resident and guest scholars as well as external specialists within the broad field of the history of the visual arts in Italy from the Middle Ages to the present. With respect to the international character of the scholarly community making use of the institute, articles are published in the authors' preferred languages — mainly German, Italian, English, French and Spanish — and each is appended with a summary in Italian or German.
